Swine Flu Symptoms

“Look Out For the Main Symptoms Of The Swine Flu Virus and Escape The Pandemic”

Watch out for the following symptoms common to the Swine Flu

For any disease to be explained, the readers much know what caused it and what its major symptoms are. Before the year 2009, the H1N1 virus was non-existent. It wasn’t up till the month of April that this new strand of virus was discovered. H1N1 virus, otherwise known as swine flu, is the most contagious form of flu there is. Humans get this virus when they come in contact with a pig or a swine, and it can be then passed on from one human being to another with great ease as the virus travels through air and contaminates it. The swine flu virus is a combination of influenza virus, avian and swine. The most unusual thing about this virus is that it has been seen in those humans also, who have never seen a real pig in their lives. Doctors say that this typical disease has a very close proximity to your seasonal flu and it spreads like a viral flu too. Due to this many doctors aren’t able to differentiate between a simple cold and swine flu. The H1N1 virus spreads through the air; when a person infected sneezes or coughs, he or she send out viral particles into the air and contaminate it. If a healthy person breathes the same air, then he or she gets this virus. It is that easy for this virus to spread amongst humans as it did amongst pigs. This disease doesn’t only spread through the air but can also be caught through physical encounters with a patient already suffering from the disease.  Hence it is essential that you do not touch or ever breathe in the same air as a swine flu patient. There is also a very common misconception that this disease can be caught if a person eats pork. This is definitely not the case, as the bacteria and virus is eliminated from the meat once it is cooked. However, it is recommended that you heat or cook the pork to around 160 Fahrenheit’s to escape from any potential danger.
The most common symptoms of the swine flu are almost the same as your common cold or seasonal influenza; hence it becomes extremely difficult to differentiate between the two without conduct laboratory tests. A few of the major symptoms of the H1N1 virus include coughing, sneezing, fever, body aches, chills, runny or stuffed nose, vomiting, sweating, nausea and feeling tired all the time. If this virus isn’t treated and diagnosed on time, it can create serious complications for the person. It can lead to the development of pneumonia and respiratory failure, especially in diabetic and asthmatic patients. If the patient starts to experience shortness of breath, dizziness, constant vomiting, confusion and abdominal pain you should immediately rush the patient to the hospital as this condition can be life threatening, especially for those whose immune system has already been weakened by this disease.
There are many tests present in the hospitals for this virus and without conducting these tests a normal doctor cannot differentiate between a common cold and swine flu due to the similarity in symptoms. For the laboratory tests, doctors usually withdraw a sample from the patient’s nose or throat in order to test it. One thing that a doctor needs to know is that if the patient is already consuming anti-biotic, the results will definitely show a false negative. Hence all medications, anti-biotic should be stopped before conducting any tests on the patient. It should also be noted that normal anti-biotic given for the common cold do not work on the H1N1 virus. Doctors usually recommend anti-viral medication along with Tylenol which is the most common painkiller, for such patients. Anti-viral medication is the most effective source of medicine for the swine flu virus. There are also vaccinations present in the market against this pandemic and one can get vaccination shots in order to make their immune system more protected against the swine flu. Vaccinations are present in two forms, one is present in the form of dead bacteria of the same virus and the other type is a nasal spray with live bacteria in it, which is a very weakened form of this disease, given to make the body immune towards it. You can take whichever form you are more comfortable with. Apart from vaccinations, another prevention tip against this pandemic is to avoid any physical contact with anyone else, wear protective masks in an effected area and to be extremely careful about your hygiene.
